Tiny Blankets Needed for Fetal or Newborn Demise Donations

There is a blog called Greyson's Gift. The mother of Greyson has organized an effort for families dealing with fetal or newborn demise. She says:

"I am looking for your help. Hospitals all across the country are in need of small, very small, baby blankets. In cases of fetal demise, babies are so tiny, even the smallest nursery blanket is much too big to wrap around their tiny bodies. I know how parents feel when they are presented with their tiny baby, for the first and last time. Having to deal with a large blanket that doesn't fit, is a distraction. And, unnecessary. If you can sew or crotchet/knit, would you please help me to supply blankets for these mothers?"

What they need:
12" x 12" and 24" x 24" flannel receiving blankets, in small pink, baby blue, white, and yellow prints. Use your best judgement, we don't want the prints of the blankets to detract from very small babies.

The blankets also need to be double layered.

Where to send:
Meryntha Haro
4603 Oakview Dr.
Mansfield, Texas 76063

Continued good luck to you, Meryntha, on your quest to keep Greyson's memory alive with this noble cause.

My daughter had a 24 week stillborn due to Triplody. She was tiny and needed a 9x9 blanket which was given to her at the hospital. I crochet these and 12x12 blankets for the hospital now.

Interesting that the person who posted this hasn’t responded to comments asking if these are still needed. I buy fabric as I needed it and I would be happy to make some of these but I want a response letting me know that these are still needed

This post was from 2010. Maybe contact a hospital near you to see if these blankets are needed.

I work at a hospital in L& D and we are in need of small fleece blankets for our fetal demise babies. They are so tiny that our preemie items are too big. You can email me at nicole.radke@mymlc.com if you feel the desire to send our unit any items. Thanks <3

I know this person hasn't been responding, but I would like to see that I do something similar in Jonesboro, AR. I lost my son in 2018 and I've been donating blankets I sew to local hospitals. If anyone would like to donate - or if you are with a hospital that would like to partner with my organization to receive these blankets - please email me at evansembrace18@gmail.com

I imagine this is an ongoing need. If that is not the case, please let me know. Otherwise, I will begin making and sending to you in an ongoing basis❤️

I guess we could all just contact our local hospitals. I would imagine the need is everywhere, unfortunately.
Love to all of you good hearted
generous folks!

Are you still in need of blankets

Mary said...

Yes indeed, these are needed all over the country. Despite our medical advances, babies are still dying for varied reasons- no reflection on the mother and her lifestyle or the medical care given. Contact a hospital social worker, the neonatal ICU, the neonatal unit head nurse or clinical nurse specialist for that unit, or the hospital Chaplain. We all use our phones for everything else but how about Googling that charity to see if they have branches elsewhere. These blankets don't all need to be sent to one location to be useful.

Alert to everyone:
Donations of supplies are made to a lot of sources, one of which is your local Community Center or Senior Center. A lot of times they get so much that they don't have space for them or they don't have storage, including items like fabric and yarn. Most will give it away free. I live near a senior center that has several sewing machines. They block off a certain time on Wednesdays where the sewing machines are set up and ready to go. Depending on what they have on hand will determine the project. They are an efficient bunch of people who allow volunteers to take their place on an "assembly line" wherever they want to work, whether it's cutting fabric, placing cut pieces together in packs, sewing, ironing sewn pieces, or assembly. Some of the upholstery items that come in make great dog beds for shelters, the other fabric is usually used to make quilts or other items which can be distributed to those in need during the holidays. Get to know your community and it's resources. There are also a multitude of Maker groups forming all over where you can learn a new skill or provide classes.

Emptycradle.org is an organization that could use your help if your heart and hands are so inclined. I’m currently crocheting blankets and hats for some of the littlest babies. The size suggested for these on the site are “palm size.” For hat sizes and patterns, Google “micro premee” or “preemie” crochet or knit patterns.
